WHERE IT ALL BEGAN

The Roots of our Foundation

Australian Vanilla Plantations was incorporated in 2016, however the idea was born from the seeds of curiosity. In 2013, during a simple dinner conversation, one question changed everything: “Why can’t we grow vanilla in Australia?”

In 2015, I was introduced to a remarkable woman who had successfully grown vanilla in Sydney. Her research proved that, with the right conditions, vanilla could thrive in sub-tropical regions. Turning that proof into a commercial reality meant solving a series of challenges:

  • How do we design a greenhouse that’s low-cost, low-maintenance, and easy to build?

  • How can it be small enough to suit different properties, yet scalable for real production?

These questions became the foundation for what is now the Vanilla Dome.

Why Vanilla Domes?

Changing the Game

Climate change is increasingly challenging vanilla farmers. It is  has made Vanilla prices more volatile as traditional farms face extreme weather and uncertainty.

Controlled-environment agriculture (greenhouses) emerged decades ago as a solution, but large-scale systems remain costly and complex to maintain. That’s why AVP was founded with a different vision: micro greenhouses that are efficient, simple to operate, and accessible to more growers.

Guided by the principle of “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication” (Da Vinci), our goal is to take bold ideas and distil them into something practical, effective, and accessible.
